The Capital District Convention is an annual event held by the district board. This event truly encompasses the leadership aspect of CKI as this is where the new district officers are elected. It is also a celebration of the past year as various awards are given out to outstanding clubs and members. As always, there are also large scale service projects for attendees to participate in.
2022 Convention Information
The 2022 District Convention will be held at the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, Virginia, from March 4-6. It will be held in conjunction with the Kiwanis Midyear Conference. As a result, it is the perfect opportunity for CKI members to celebrate their accomplishments and socialize with many of the Kiwanians who support CKI. The annual District Convention is a celebration of achievement. Our clubs and members have done amazing things, and this is their time to shine! There are numerous awards available to help recognize outstanding clubs, leaders, and more! Be sure to check out the link to the Awards Applications and apply!
Each year the Capital District of Kiwanis and the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation award matching scholarships to outstanding CKI members. Up to five $1,000 scholarships may be awarded each year. For more information and to apply, check out the application materials.
In addition to the matching scholarships, this year we will be awarding a one-time $2,500 scholarship in honor of Ryan “Stack” Clark, a Circle K member at Virginia Tech who lost his life during the 2007 massacre. This scholarship is specifically for members of the CKI at Virginia Tech. The application may be found here.
The main purpose of the District Convention is to hold the House of Delegates. This body, composed of representatives from clubs within the district, votes upon changes to the district bylaws and elects the district leaders for the following year. Each club in good standing is entitled to TWO voting delegates. Clubs must submit a Delegate Certification Form prior to the House of Delegates. Anyone interested in running for district office or seeking endorsement for international office should review the Candidacy Packet.
The elected positions are:
- Communications Coordinator
- Lt. Governors for each of the 5 Divisions
While the first three positions are open to any member in good standing within the district, the Lt. Governor positions are limited to members within their specific division.
