Greetings Capital CRABS!

 

Happy 2007!  With January already in full swing, the deadline to register
for the 2007 Capital District Circle K Convention is rapidly approaching!
You don't want to miss this opportunity to experience the best district
event of the year!  The theme for this year's District Convention (DCON) is
"That's a Wrap:  Capital in the Spotlight", and will transform the
convention into a Hollywood weekend with all the glitz and glamour.  This
year's District Board took on the task of reevaluating the traditional
convention activities, and have created a Convention experience we are sure
everyone will enjoy!  Here are some of the highlights:

 

THE BASICS

When;  16-18 February, 2007

Where:  Doubletree Hotel, Charlottesville, Virginia 

Cost:  $90 Pre-Registration Fee if receieved by January 26 at 11:59, $110 if
after this date or on site

Hotel (MUST BE RESERVED ON YOUR OWN): 80.00 per night for quad occupancy,
contact the Doubletree by January 26 to ensure these room rates

MOCKTAIL HOUR AND MEET THE CANDIDATES:

Arrive early to the convention and enjoy a mocktail party hosted by the
District Board, to allow you time to meet the candidates for District Office
and see your friends from all over the Capital District.  Use this
opportunity to wind down after your travel to the convention site, and get
in the spirit of our Hollywood Weekend.

 

LIGHTS AND MUSIC AND HYPNOSIS, OH MY!

The opening session of this year's District Convention is jammed with
excitement and energy as we invite you to wear your club or division
t-shirts and show your CDCKI spirit.  The music will blare, the lights will
glow, and the crowds will yell as we kick off our Convention Celebration in
style!  And make sure you arrive early to get the best seats in the house
for a chance to be on stage or just up close for Mr. Larry Volz, who will
perform his famous hypnotist act for the convention's attendees at the
session.

 

GREAT WORKSHOPS

While convention workshops in the past have always gotten rave reviews, we
want to ensure that all of the programming we bring to the members of the
district is meaningful, yet fun.  So don't miss out on this year's workshops
which will range in topics from fun to prepping for real world issues.  Want

HOUSE OF DELEGATES

Make your voice heard!  Weigh in on important issues facing the district and
elect the 2007-2008 District Board of Officers.  Remember, each club in good
standing is allowed to sit 2 delegates in the house.  If you are interested
in being a delegate, please contact your club president or Governor Sanders.

 

OUR TAKE ON THE OSCARS AND A KICKIN' AFTER PARTY

This year's President's Banquet is full of individual and club award
recognition, and is shaping up to be a great evening of celebration of the
year's accomplishments.  Make sure that you get in your club awards by
January 17, 2007 to ensure that you're in the running!  

 

Also, this year's Banquet will mark the return of the CDCKI Talent Contest
and the CDCKI Oratorical Contest.  Both contests will take place on Saturday
afternoon.  Four acts will be selected to perform at the banquet on Saturday
evening and the winning orator will present his/her speech to the convention
attendees that evening.

We are also honored to have as our Keynote Speaker, Ms. Carol H. Rascoe, the
President of Reading is Fundamental!   Ms. Rascoe and her organization are
dedicated to the cause of Children's Literacy and will speak with us about
her work and what we can do to work with this cause.

 

And don't miss the dance following the reception, which will rival any
Hollywood wrap party.
