Hey District Board!
As we start getting back into school mode for this fall, things will slowly
start to get busier. This is why it is essential that you stay organized and
start reading your directives and all e-mails well ahead of time! If you
have not yet had a chance to look over the Kiwanis-Family Weekend Board
Meeting Directives and Agenda yet (sent out on Aug 20th), please do so ASAP.
This way you will have enough time to let me know if you have any questions
about anything, and you will not miss any of the directives' deadlines.
Also, remember that this coming board meeting, the Board Report setups will
be different. If you have any questions about the updated LTG Board Report
templates and the sections which need to be added to the executive
officer/committee chair reports (sent out on Aug 23rd), please let me
know ASAP as well!
The following are a few *IMPORTANT* reminders for you to take note of:
*PHONE CHATS*: If you need to *change your phone chat time* with me for this
fall semester, please let me know ASAP!* If you have a chat with me
generally on Wednesday evenings between 6-9PM, we will need to reschedule
our chats since I have my Physical Chemistry lab during this time.*
*KIWANIS DCON*: I'd like to thank those of you who came out to *Kiwanis DCON
* this year! It was a lot of fun, the CKI workshop was informative, and we
got names of several people interested in reserving a copy of the anthology
project. Plus, the CKI Display Board which Deirdre put together was
really cute :) For those of you who are interested, the incoming Capital
District Kiwanis Governor-Elect will be Tom Ganse of the St. Mary's County
Kiwanis Club.
*TOTAL K DAY: *What is the latest with *Total K Day*? The *tentative* date
is set for the night of Saturday, November 3rd, through the morning of
Sunday the 4th. The idea is to have an all night event from 8PM to 8AM
where attendees would register and have teams of four people, and one person
on each team must be dancing at all times. We also can have games like
limbo, etc. to break things up every hour or so, and we'll switch up the
music often to keep people from getting bored. Right now, we hope to have it
in the Baltimore area (or potentially even DC/NoVa), but we are still
waiting on estimates from each school before we set the location.* Please
hold off on promoting this event to your clubs until we can set the location
and solidify this date. If you want to mention to your clubs the possibility
of the dance-a-thon and to ask them to hold this date just in case, that's
fine.*
*YOUTH OUTREACH PROGRAM:* Lieutenant Governors, have you started promoting
the *Youth Outreach Program* yet? If not, please begin NOW! Remember, you
should be targeting Kiwanis Clubs in your area who do NOT currently sponsor
a CKI club. You will need to start contacting Kiwanis Clubs ASAP to let them
know that you are interested in speaking about YOP at one of their meetings.
Please let Milan or myself know if you have any questions!
*HELPING HANDS: AN ANTHOLOGY OF CHILDREN'S STORIES: *Unless you've been
skipping out on our phone chats, you should know this by now...but just as a
quick recap, the anthology currently stands at around 85 pages, and it is
very thin. Since we are charging $15/book, and since it is currently very
small with not that many stories, we decided to re-open collection time so
that we can collect more stories. Also, instead of limiting story submission
to individuals aged 4-14, we will expand this to those individuals who are
under 18 years of age. This means that you can now also talk to high
schoolers and Key Clubbers about contributing stories for the book as well.
I will talk to Key Club Governor Sarah about helping us promote this to
their district as well, but if you know any local Key Club members or clubs
who might be interested, don't forget to inform them of this. The new
submission deadline for additional anthology entries will be our November
Board Meeting. I will send out a more detailed e-mail with the exact
information on this update to the anthology project as well as how to submit
the stories, updated submission forms, an informative letter, and
promotional materials/flyers by the end of this weekend, so keep an eye out
for that. Also, don't forget that anyone who is interested can now place a
reservation for the anthology on our CDCKI web site. Please visit the
following link for more information:
http://www.cdcki.org/events/Helping_Hands.htm.
*FALL TRAINING RALLY:* Start talking to your clubs about *Fall Training
Rally 2007* right away! If YOU have not registered yet, remember that you
need to do so as well. Please visit the following site to register, and ask
all of your clubs and the members/officers of your division to register as
well: http://www.cdcki.org/events/FTR_reg.htm. Don't forget that the
registration deadline is Friday, September 21st, and any registrations after
this will have an additional $10 late fee.
Please start talking to your clubs to make sure that they have a game plan
for this fall and membership recruitment. Keep in mind as well that October
is getting closer and closer, and it will be dues time before you know it!
Also, don't forget that any club which needs help with member recruitment
can also talk to the CB&R Committee for additional assistance with
recruitment and strengthening the club. Additionally, If you haven't done so
already, you can read my first three newsletters since they are now at the
following link http://www.cdcki.org/member_resources/documents.htm under the
category of Governor's Newsletters. If you have any questions, let me know!
