Hey District Board!
I hope you made it back alright after the Board Meeting :) We got a lot
taken care of this weekend, so I just wanted remind you all of a few
important things that we went over/decided on during November Board Meeting!
*District Convention 2008*
- You all should now feel even more well equipped to start full swing
with DCON promotion. We have our theme now (Greek/Roman Mythology) so you
can let your clubs know about that. The DCON theme-ing sub-committee will be
meeting this week to wrap up ideas on official titles and logos for DCON so
that you can use that in your promotion as well, but don't let that keep you
from starting promotion right away!
- Also important are the DCON REGISTRATION DATES AND PRICES!! Please
promote this info to your clubs so that they know by when to register, and
how much it is going to cost them. You can also encourage clubs to talk to
their Student Government Associations, sponsoring Kiwanis Clubs, and start
fundraising to subsidize costs if necessary, but please don't wait to
promote these amounts and dates to your clubs so that they're not surprised
or overwhelmed right before the deadline. Remember, the early registration
is until 12/31/08 and is $90, regular registration is until 1/23/08 and is
$100, and anytime after that is $110 per attendee. Hotel charges are
additional ($49 total per person for quad occupancy if reserved with the
hotel before 1/23/08). Registration will be up on the CDCKI web site
shortly!
- If you (or any of your clubs' members) have specific ideas for DCON,
please let Tanya ( tanyasari at gmail.com) know so that she can provide
those suggestions to the appropriate sub-committees. Keep in mind that we
still have vacancies and space for members who would like to be involved
with DCON planning, especially with Donations/Sponsorships, Workshops, and
Sergeant at Arms.
*Convention Advertisements*
- Remember that it is your responsibility as members of the District
Board to sell program ads! *Each board member must sell at least two
full pages' worth of ads (either four half pages, two full pages, or any
combo in between) *. A full page ad costs $75, and a half page costs
$45. You can talk to businesses in your area, or clubs can put ads in as
well. The updated ad form is not on the CDCKI web site yet, but I will
let you know as soon as it is!
*The District Fundraising Initiative*
- *Don't forget that you should continue to collect stories so that
they can be submitted (to Box 5-0166; Mary Baldwin College; Staunton,
VA 24401) by December 15th!* Please talk to your clubs, and encourage
them to speak with local Key Clubs, Builders Clubs, K-Kids, groups which
they tutor or mentor, libraries, after school programs, etc.
- You should have all received the e-mail with the updated information
packets and entry forms. Pass that information on, and be sure that you have
read over it all as well.
- Reservations for the book can be made online now at
http://www.cdcki.org/events/Helping_Hands.htm. Please encourage anyone
who is interested to reserve a copy, as the book will be printed on demand
once it is completed. The plan is for the book to be sent to the publishers
by the beginning of January 2008 so that the book will be ready to be
distributed to those who have ordered it by mid-to-late January.
- Between the $1,140 raised through the FTR board auctions, the $500
Razoo Speed Grant, and donations and counting around $100 worth of book
orders, we currently have just over $2,000 raised towards the DFI. Our goal
is $10,000 so we are currently right around a fifth of the way there. Notice
that a large chunk of this money is from FTR and Razoo, so please start
thinking about all kinds of different ways to promote book sales, and be
creative.
- If you have not done so already, please vote for the latest Razoo
Speed Grant towards our DFI here: http://apps.facebook.com/s

Y0<http://apps.facebook.com/speedgranting/proposal.php?pid=259&ref=MjU5fDY1MzAwMTY0>.
Encourage all your facebook friends to vote as well, and we could win
another $300 for the cause :)
*Awards/Scholarships*
- ** They will be up on the CDCKI web site ASAP now that they have
been updated.* START AWARDS PROMOTION NOW!!* Remind your clubs that
they need originals of specific signatures and that there is a received by
deadline for the mailing of these awards (January 18, 2008).
- Someone asked about short descriptions for all of the awards, and if
any of you would like to use the information in it, I attached an awards
newsletter from last year which has all those descriptions as well as some
basic tips. *PLEASE NOTE: This document is from last year, so the
dates and address to which the awards say to be mailed are relevant to last
year and NOT this year.*
- Also, *the 2008 CKI scholarship packet can be found here: **
http://www.circlek.org/lit/download.asp?id=640*<http://www.circlek.org/lit/download.asp?id=640>
.
*Dues*
- For those of you who did not catch it during the Board Meeting, *you
can find the latest Club Information Listings (CIL) here on the CKI web
site: **http://www.circlek.org/lit/download.asp?id=220*<http://www.circlek.org/lit/download.asp?id=220>
*.* According to the latest CIL, our district has 155 members whose
dues have been processed by November 5th. Please ensure that your clubs are
sending in their dues and that they do not have any questions regarding the
submission process.
- *Our membership goal for this year which we set at DOTC was 1,100
members. *Please do your part to help us reach this goal by ensuring
that your clubs send in their dues and helping them recruit/retain their
dues paid members wherever needed.
- If YOU have any questions about the dues submission process, please
let myself or Milan know! Remember that your *clubs should also
be sending a copy of their membership rosters and invoices to Milan*as well.
**
Please let me know if you have any questions, and I will send out your next
set of directives for this winter shortly :)
Thanks!
Sneha
