Hey Capital District CKI Club Officers!

I know it's getting to the really busy time of year, so here are a few *REALLY
IMPORTANT things* *for you to keep in mind and to* *pass on to your fellow
club members*:

*District Fundraising Initiative Update* - *The collection deadline for
stories for the anthology has been extended to December 15th! *Please help
us collect all the remaining stories for *Helping Hands: An Anthology of
Children's Stories* by asking any children (under 18 years of age) to submit
stories and illustrations relating to "helping others". A parent signature
is required, and you will find the *official entry form attached to this
e-mail*.

Please mail all submissions to *Box 5-0166; Mary Baldwin College;
Staunton, VA 24401* by *December 15th* :) Let me know if you have any
questions. Don't forget that you can reserve your own copy of the anthology
today and read more about the library we are building in Honduras here:
http://www.cdcki.org/events/Helping_Hands.htm.

*District Convention 2008: An Odyssey of Service* - District Convention 2008
is definitely going to be an experience to remember! Between partaking in
fun entertainment and dances, making new and reuniting with old CDCKI
friends, representing your club in the 2008 House of Delegates, watching
your fellow Capital CRABS show off their talent in the Talent Showcase and
Oratorical Contests (see the web site for more info), electing your 2008-09
District Board, celebrating all of YOUR club's achievements for the year,
participating in a District-wide Service Project, enjoying the President's
Banquet and Ball, and just having an all around great time, you definitely
don't want to miss this DCON!!

*DCON 2008 will be held at the Hyatt Fair Lakes in Fairfax, VA during the
weekend of February 15-17, 2008!*

You can *REGISTER NOW <http://www.cdcki.org/events/DCON_reg.htm>* or visit
the following site (http://www.cdcki.org/events/DCON_main.html) for more
information.

The *EARLY REGISTRATION price is only $90* if you register by December 31st,
regular registration is $100 until January 24th, and late registration is
$110 and accepted even on-site. Also, all convention attendees are
responsible for making their own reservations directly with the hotel
online<http://fairlakes.hyatt.com/groupbooking/fairlcapk2008>or by
calling (703) 818-1234. Get excited...and get registered now!

*Get Recognized for Your Hard Work: APPLY FOR AWARDS! *That's right, the
CDCKI awards are up on the District Web Site now! Please go to
http://www.cdcki.org/events/DCON_main.html, and you can find all of the
updated applications. Don't waste another moment, start looking over the
applications right away...you know you and your club deserve to be
recognized! Please read over all the directions *carefully* to avoid
disqualification. If you have any questions about any of the awards, please
let me or your LTG know and we will help clarify things for you :) Don't
forget to also take a look at applications for the Service Recognition Award
and Society of Distinguished Collegians (located on the same site) while
you're at it!

*Dues! Dues! Dues! *Has your club collected and processed your dues for the
2007-08 year? If not, please be sure that your club is working on this right
NOW!! Remember, you should send in your money ($32/person) and process an
invoice online for the minimum number of members (20 members, unless your
institution has less than 1,000 people in which case it's 15 members)
by *DECEMBER
1st *(and that's just a few days away)! If you need help obtaining the
minimum number of members or collecting dues in time, please contact your
Lt. Governor (or me if you don't have an LTG right now) right away so that
we can help you out! Remember that you can always add additional members
even after the December 1st deadline.

Want to know what exactly falls under the role of a Circle K International
Representative? Well, *please check out the attached letter from our very
own International Representative, Kristen Reed*. Her letter should really
clear up any questions you have about the position, and, if you still want
to know more, feel free to contact Kristen directly at kristencki at gmail.com.

Again, I know it's a busy time, so if you need some time to relax or
de-stress in between finals and end-of-semester papers and exams, be sure to
visit the site www.freerice.org! All you have to do is play a vocabulary
game, and, for every question you get right, 10 grains of rice will be
donated to the United Nations to help end world hunger. It's free, it's
quick, it helps you build your own vocabulary, and it's a fun way to really
help make a difference :)

Don't forget to pass this information on to your club members and any other
appropriate people! Please keep an eye out for the November Governor's
Newsletter to come out at the end of the week. If you have any questions,
please let me know.

Thanks,

Sneha
