[CDCKI Chairs] District Fundraising Initiative: Anthology Submission Forms and Info Packets

Hey Capital District!

As most of you know by now, the Capital District CKI Fundraising Initiative
for this year is really making a large-scale impact, and there is a lot that
you can do to help out!

*So what exactly are we doing?* Currently, we are creating an anthology of
stories/poems relating to the topic of "helping others" written by
children/youth of ages 18 and under who reside in the geographic areas of
the Capital District (i.e. Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia, and
Delaware).This anthology will be called *Helping Hands: An Anthology of
Children's Stories*, and we will be selling the books for $15 a piece. Out
of this, 100% of the profit (which is $5/anthology since the other $10 goes
to manufacture the book) will go to build the first ever public library in
the San Francisco de Opalaca region of Honduras!

This is a huge deal, but in order to ensure that we not only physically
build the library but also fully furnish it with the books and resources
needed, we will have to raise $10,000! Between the $500 Razoo Speed Grant
(THANK YOU to everyone who voted!), the close to $1,100 we raised at the
Fall Training Rally Board Auctions, and all the book orders we have received
so far, we currently have raised around $1,700, and are about 17% of the way
to reaching our goal! But we still have a ways to go :)

*What Can YOU Do to Help?* The first thing is to help us get more stories
and artwork for the anthology!! *Attached are the Anthology Submission Forms
and the Informational Packets *so that we can continue to collect stories
for this anthology. The first thing right now for clubs to do is to look
over the information packet and use the appropriate materials to talk to
local elementary/middle/high schools about this competition and submitting
any work for this. You can also talk specifically to Key Clubs, Builder's
Clubs, or K-Kids Clubs if you work with them, or you can try, more
generally, to get submissions by talking to libraries, after school
programs, community centers, etc.

In any case, any story/art submissions are due to a member of the Capital
District Board of Officers (either to your LTG, Milan, Sam, or me) so that
they are *received* by *midnight on Thursday, November 8, 2007*, in time for
the CDCKI November Board Meeting! If you will not see a member of the
District Board by the appropriate date, or if you have applicants who prefer
to mail their submissions directly rather than submit them through your CKI
club, you can have them mail their submissions to the following address:

submitting work to the anthology!

Also, other ways you can help out include pre-ordering copies of the book
online here http://www.cdcki.org/events/Helping_Hands.htm. The book should
be sent out around late December of this year (early Jan 08 at the latest),
so it can make a nice winter holidays present. Otherwise, your club can
order a certain number of books and then sell them to people on your campus
and in your communities! You can also hold fundraisers and make donations to
the project as well :)
