Hey Capital District!
Can you believe that it's already May? Wow, time is flying, and summer is
approaching! But this also means that as you prepare for finals and
everything else that might be going on, it's also time to start thinking
about applying for Circle K International Club Awards!!
The updated *2007-08 Club Awards Packet* can be found on the CKI web site *
HERE* <http://circlek.org/lit/forms/awdinfopak.pdf>, and it contains
information and/or entry forms on all of the following awards and contests:
- *Growth Enhances Membership (GEM) Award* - Clubs do *NOT* need to apply
specifically for this award. The five clubs with the highest percentage
increase in membership in will be recognized at ICON. The total dues a club
pays by April 15 of each year will be the figure the International Office
uses to compute the percentage of growth for that club, and you can check
out the packet for more details.
- *Circle K International Club Achievement Award* - The Club Achievement
Award is designed to recognize and honor those CKI clubs that have excelled
in all aspects of club operation. It is divided into two different parts,
Part One which is comprised of point-based questions, and Part Two which is
judged by International and has essay based questions.
- *Single Service Award* - The Single Service Award is designed to
recognize and honor those CKI clubs, through dedication and unselfish
efforts, producing the best single project or service during the year. The
entry form asks for an essay detailing need for the project, planning and
evaluation of the project, club participation, publicity, and evaluation of
the project, and up to six supplementary materials can also be submitted.
- *Outstanding Kiwanis-Family Relations Award* - The Outstanding
Kiwanis-Family Relations Award is designed to recognize and honor those CKI
clubs that have participated in activities and events to enhance
Kiwanis-Family relations. Points are earned based on participation in
Kiwanis-Family service projects, the Key to College Program, participation
in the Kiwanis Career Contacts program, Kiwanis-Family interclubs, and any
other Kiwanis-Family special events/conferences and conventions.
- *Club Newsletter Award* - The Club Newsletter Award is designed to
recognize and honor those CKI clubs that produce a high-quality newsletter
on a regular basis. The newsletter may be produced in paper or electronic
form.
- *Traditional and Non-Traditional Scrapbook Awards* - The Club Scrapbook
Awards are designed to recognize and honor those CKI clubs that produce a
high-quality scrapbook chronicling the activities of their club. The size
of a traditional scrapbook is limited to 18" x 27". Scrapbooks larger in
size should be entered into the Non-Traditional Scrapbook Category.
- *Oratorical Contest* - The Circle K International Oratorical contest is
designed to encourage members to share their attitudes, beliefs, and
experiences regarding the organization through a prepared speech. This also
assists members in developing public-speaking skills while providing an
inspirational and motivational message. The subject of all orations shall
be, "*Your values and the actions you take based upon those values
determines your integrity. Describe how CKI has strengthened your values and
integrity."* The competition will be staged during the Circle K
International Convention, and the location will be published in the official
convention program.
- *Club T-shirt Award* - This award is designed to award, on the
International level, those clubs that reach excellence in club T-shirt
design and distribution. Shirts will be judged based on whether CKI insignia
is on the shirt, the presence of the club and university's name, written
explanations on the design and the marketing of the shirt, and originality
of the design.
- *Service Initiative Award* - This award is to recognize clubs who
organize and perform an outstanding project in relation to the Circle K
International Service Initiative. Entries will be judged based on the
project's description, the need for the project, planning and execution of
the project, club participation, collaboration with other organizations,
public relations, service initiative focus area, and overall participation
of the club.

of those awards! Make sure your club is represented at International
Convention (ICON) this year, and be rewarded for all your hard work: APPLY
NOW!! :) Read over the directions carefully, as failure to follow directions
could lead to disqualification or a loss of points.
These awards are due by *June 15* *OR* *on-site* at the 2008 Circle K
International Convention in Denver, Colorado. This means that if you are
attending ICON (which you can find more information about on the CDCKI web
site HERE <http://cdcki.org/events/ICON_main.htm>), you have a little bit
more time to complete your applications. *For more information on
